Jive is one of the five International Latin dances. A very happy, energetic dance, with plenty of knee-lifting, bending, and rocking of the hips with lots of energy. A lively, and uninhibited variation of Jitterbug, many of its basic patterns are similar to those of East Coast Swing.

Jive incorporates lots of kicks and flicks, even twirling of the woman, and doesn’t move around the dance floor like other dances.


Salsa is a popular form of social dance, usually a partner dance form that corresponds to salsa music. Best grouped in pairs of 4-beat patterns counted “1-2-3-…-5-6-7-…”.


Bachata, the sensual style of social dance from the Dominican Republic, is a full 8 count moving within a square. Dancers in the Western World later began developing a simpler pattern with a side-to-side motion. Both Styles consist of 3 steps normal and then a tap step. The tap is often accompanied by a “pop” of the hips, and is sometimes substituted with syncopations (steps in between the beats – some similar to cha-cha-cha steps and others much different).


One of the most popular genres of dance originating in Angola. Africa, Kizomba music became very close to Zouk. This Angolan dance form is mesmerizing to watch, and its unavoidable sensuality is helping it spread across the world.

Merengue, from the Dominican Republic music and dance, is an easy and fun dance to learn, which makes it a popular social dance. It consists of Cuban hip motion and fluid leg movement.
